Making daring, collaborative, interactive dance in Houston.
Founded in 1998, PDC Works (formally Psophonia Dance Company) is dedicated to making dances that entertain, intrigue, educate and inspire learning through collaboration and interaction with local artists and arts organizations. Now under the sole direction of Sophia Torres, PDC Works brings its athleticism and unique view of everyday objects into multi-disciplinary performances,

PDC WORKS & AURA CONTEMPORARY ENSEMBLE
Since 2015 Torres and Director Rob Smith have been developing their inclusive collaborative vision through the creation of three staged works that foster an interdependence between dancer and musician. Two of these works, Memory Web and Colony, were full evening length programs presented at the Midtown Arts and Theater Complex Houston (MATCH), and one, Danza, originated around a single solo work for viola and was presented as part of AURA and PDC concerts.
COLONY
COLONY, an evening length work created in collaboration with AURA CONTEMPORARY ENSEMBLE, explores our symbiotic relationship with honeybees through music and dance. The multidisciplinary piece premiered in 2019 at the MATCH and streamed live in the 2020 Cincy Fringe Festival.
MEMORY WEB
Memory Web (2017), the third collaboration between PDC Works & AURA, explores the episodic memory taken from the entangled recollections of individuals caught up in a pivotal event. The evening length work incorporated spoken word, images, dance and music to portray the diverse viewpoints of a group of people attending the same life-changing event.
“We absolutely love dance and mixed media and music and we were totally down for this! Very rarely and I mean VERY rarely have we ever seen shows that integrate their music as fully as Colony does.”
